MONTHLY MEETINGS:
Monthly meetings at the British Institute cover League business, including time for coffee, brioche and socializing. Each meeting typically ends with an interesting speaker usually from the Florence area.
CHRISTMAS BAZAAR:
Every December, the League holds its annual Christmas Bazaar where merchandise is sold. Items including clothing for men, women and children, books, toys, games, handmade Christmas and household decorations, accessories, homemade chocolates, baked goods, jams and jellies, white elephant and new items. Everything sold at the bazaar is made or donated by AILO members and friends. One of the bazaar’s major events is the Lottery and Silent Auction where “bazaar-goers” may win vacations, wine, designer goods, and many other delightful gifts. Needless to say, activities relating to preparing for and organizing the Bazaar go on all year.
DONATION DAY:
Each spring, AILO awards and presents donations to its selected charities for that year on Donation Day. League members have the opportunity to nominate a charity from the Province of Florence to be a recipient of an AILO donation. All the nominated charities are visited and evaluated by our Donation Research team. The general membership then votes to determine which charities will be funded that year.
CULTURAL EVENTS:
Each month our club offers cultural outings in Florence as well as out of town.
HAND WORK GROUPS:
Members meet to chat while doing needlepoint, cross stitch, knitting, crochet or other handicrafts they enjoy.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE:
Social activities including lunches after our General Meetings, cocktail parties, Thanksgiving luncheon and Christmas reception.
COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Activities include visiting the elderly, parties for underprivileged children and collecting food for the local Food Bank.
NIGHT OWL MEETINGS:
Monthly evening meetings accommodate members (and friends or spouses) who are unable to attend the daytime meetings in a very social atmosphere in a members homes.
